2012 Posting Plans

I’m not going to do the post a week thing again (there’s no real reason why, just because). As of right now, I don’t really have any official posting plans. In a way, I’m kinda taking a sabbatical from blogging, but I will be coming back to post stuff; I’m just not sure how often. I’m going to stick to Friday posting unless there’s a post emergency (something I absolutely have to post, even if it’s not a Friday).

The only thing I know for sure is that I will not permanently abandon my blog or my loyal readers.

Guinness World Record Books

Welcome to the sixth day of 2012! For my first blog post of the new year, I decided to write about the Guinness World Record (GWR) books. Every year since 2010, my mom and stepfather have gotten the yearly GWR book as a family gift. I first became interested in GWR when I was twelve. I was browsing the nonfiction section of the school library and I saw a series of books with Guinness Worlds Record printed on the spine, along with the year (2007). Since it was a series, I leafed through it. And I soon became hooked.

The 2012 GWR book is blue with bubbles along it. I really like the food, skills/talents, and the collection records. The largest ice-cream cone measures 9 ft, 2.6 in. tall. The largest collection of dragons contains 793 dragons. The rubber duck collection has 5,249 different rubber ducks. The collector even has a room dedicated solely to the ducks. But my fave collection record is the collection of tortoises and turtles, collected by a couple who reside in Singapore. They have 3,456 tortoise and turtle items.

I also like the different categories for records. The main categories are universe, planet Earth, variety of life, time tables, human body, skills/talents, spirit of adventure, society, sci-tech and engineering, popular culture, and sports. There’s an index, which is organized differently every year, based on the records and categories. In the beginning of the 2012 edition, there’s mini section on air.

I’d definitely recommend looking through the Guinness World Record books; you’ll learn some really cool stuff.
